Hairfall & Hair Quality

More hair on the brush than you'd like

Losing fifty to a hundred strands a day is completely normal. Beyond that — or when hair starts feeling noticeably thinner, drier or more brittle than it used to — something has usually shifted internally, at the scalp, or in how the hair is being...

Sounds like

  • Visibly more hair in the shower drain, on the pillow or in the brush
  • A parting that looks wider than it used to
  • Short broken strands of uneven length through the lengths
  • Hair feels rough, dull or straw-like after washing
  • An itchy, flaky or persistently oily scalp
  • Ponytails feel noticeably thinner when you tie them

What might be causing it

  1. Nutritional gaps — iron, protein, vitamin D, B12 or zinc

  2. Thyroid imbalance, PCOS or postpartum hormonal shifts

  3. Illness, high fever, surgery or acute stress, which can trigger shedding two to three months later

  4. Harsh sulphate shampoos, or washing too rarely and leaving scalp buildup

  5. Hard water, a widespread issue across much of India

  6. Heat styling, chemical treatments and colouring

  7. Tight ponytails, braids and buns pulling at the roots

  8. Dandruff, scalp inflammation or fungal issues

  9. Genetic pattern thinning, which is progressive and needs medical management

  10. Crash dieting and rapid weight loss

A routine that works with it

Morning

  1. Detangle

Wide-tooth comb on dry hair, working up from the ends

  2. Nourish

A few drops of lightweight oil or serum on the lengths only

  3. Style loosely

Skip tight ties, especially on damp hair

What helps day to day

Lifestyle

Get protein into every meal and pair iron-rich food with vitamin C so your body absorbs it. If shedding started suddenly, get iron, thyroid and vitamin D tested rather than guessing. Loosen tight hairstyles, cut down on heat, and let hair air-dry where you can.

Skincare

Treat your scalp as skin, not an afterthought. Cleanse it properly two to three times a week with a gentle, non-stripping shampoo rather than stretching washes out for a fortnight. Oil before washing, not after, keep conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends, and rinse with lukewarm water.

    Rated 5 out of 5

I just want to thank forever earth for coming up with this amazing shampoo. It's just been three washes and i can already see that my hair became soft, shiny and so manageable. It also decreased my hairfall due to frizzy to a great extent. Less amount of shampoo is required for my mid-length hair and it work wonders. It's a saviour for dry-frizzy hair ❤️

Questions we get asked

How much hairfall is normal?

Around fifty to a hundred strands a day. What matters more than the number is whether it has changed noticeably for you, and whether your parting or ponytail thickness has changed with it.

Will oiling stop my hairfall?

Oiling conditions the hair shaft and reduces breakage, which genuinely helps how hair looks and feels. It doesn't address internal causes like iron deficiency or thyroid issues, so if shedding started suddenly, oiling alone won't be enough.

How often should I wash my hair?

Two to three times a week suits most scalps. Stretching washes out for a fortnight lets buildup and oil sit on the scalp, which tends to make things worse, not better.

I'm shedding a lot after an illness. Is that connected?

Very likely. A high fever, surgery or major stress can push hair follicles into a resting phase, with the shedding showing up two to three months later. It usually settles on its own over several months.
